Objective lens diameterThe objective lens diameter specifies how much light can enter the optics. This makes it a key factor in an instrument’s performance, for example, in twilight. The bigger the objective lens diameter, the more light the objective lens can capture. The darker the surroundings, the larger the objective lens diameter needs to be. Check the precise product name as the number after the ‘x’ specifies the objective lens diameter in millimeters. For example, a device with the suffix 10x42 has an objective lens with a diameter of 42 mm.

Variable magnification Variable magnification makes it possible to adjust the magnification flexibly within a specific range. In contrast to fixed magnification, it allows you to zoom from the lower value to the higher value. However, as the magnification increases, the field of view, i.e. the image section, becomes smaller. Check the precise product name as the number in front of the ‘x’ specifies the magnification. For example, 30-70x95 is a device with a variable magnification from 30x to 70x.
Field of viewThe field of view describes the size of the image section that can be seen through the optics. This is specified either in meters (width) at a distance of 1000 meters (m/1000m), or feet (width) at a distance of 1000 yards (ft/1000 yds), or as an angle (degrees). The higher the magnification, the smaller the field of view.
Binoculars have a large field of view, which means you can see a wide area. Spotting scopes have a higher magnification, which makes the field of view much smaller, but you can see more detail.
Weight The weight specifies how heavy or light the device is (in grams or ounces). Do you intend to do a lot of walking? Lightweight equipment is a priority in this case.

BTX spotting scope systemI have been using Swarovski 10x32 binoculars since 2003 – first the EL, then the NL Pure. They are simply perfect: ergonomic, lightweight, bright, and optically outstanding. Wherever I am, I always have a pair of Swaro 10x32 within reach. And with the invention of the forehead rest, I can easily use them while keeping my glasses on.
I come from a village in the Haut-Doubs region, and from a young age I was drawn to nature, so rich in the beech-fir forests of the Jura – especially to birds. I’m one of those contemplative types, capable of spending hours admiring a beautiful landscape or quietly observing a bird or mammal going about its life.

Où que je me trouve, j'ai toujours une paire de Swaro 10x32 à portée de main. Et avec l'invention de l'appui-front, je peux les utiliser facilement en gardant mes lunettes.
Je suis originaire d'un village du Haut-Doubs et dès mon plus jeune âge j'ai été attiré par la nature, si riche dans les hêtraies-sapinières du Jura, tout spécialement par les oiseaux. Je fais partie des contemplatifs, capable de rester des heures à contempler un beau paysage ou à regarder vivre un oiseau ou un mammifère.

The clarity, lowlight capabilities and aftercare is second to none. I have used this equipment for over 30 years. The optics are always by my side on every wildlife adventure. I love being out in the wild, from my home in Yorkshire or Amazon jungle. My life as a wildlife artist and filmmaker is all about my obsession with nature, uncovering new behaviour and recording it in great detail. I get a real buzz when I see a new species or record footage that hasn't been captured before.
