The best of both worlds – Cornell Lab & SWAROVSKI OPTIK joining hands to create a new way to identify birds

Visitors of the Rutland Birdfair 2019 got a chance to try out a new sensation: the digital guide. This multifunctional device will revolutionize bird identification.

Teaming up with the best paves the way for brilliant results. Thus, we at SWAROVSKI OPTIK, as one of the leaders in the market of long-range optics, joined hands with the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, an institution at the forefront of computer vision bird identification tools. Together we developed a truly unique concept: the digital guide.

A prototype of the digital guide, a monocular with built-in camera, was recently presented at Rutland Birdfair. Visitors were invited to see for themselves how easy it is to:

  • take a photo,
  • identify your sightings thanks to a seamless integration of the Merlin Bird ID app by Cornell,
  • livestream and share your observation with your companions.
