CURRENT PROJECTS

At Swarovski Optik we place a high value on treating nature, its fauna, and with the utmost respect. Active nature conservation and species protection is deeply embedded in our corporate philosophy. We make a considerable contribution towards the preservation of habitats and the protection of endangered animal species by initiating and/or participating in nature conservation and species protection projects in addition to partnerships with selected organisations.

In the following section we would like to introduce you to our commitment to nature conservation and species protection by outlining projects that are currently being implemented.

Black Rhinoceros / Namibia

Almost exterminated by poachers, the Black Rhino is still in serious danger of extinction. Stocks worldwide were reckoned to be around 2,000 around the turn of the century. The last few Black Rhinos live outside national parks in Namibia. SWAROVSKI OPTIK is supporting national protection and surveillance programmes there. The game wardens there now use night-vision instruments, telescopes and binoculars made in the Tyrol. The company has also provided support by creating watering holes. Meanwhile the population has been able to recover slightly and is now estimated to comprise around 4,200 individuals.
