CURRENT PROJECTS

At Swarovski Optik we place a high value on treating nature, its fauna, and with the utmost respect. Active nature conservation and species protection is deeply embedded in our corporate philosophy. We make a considerable contribution towards the preservation of habitats and the protection of endangered animal species by initiating and/or participating in nature conservation and species protection projects in addition to partnerships with selected organisations.

In the following section we would like to introduce you to our commitment to nature conservation and species protection by outlining projects that are currently being implemented.

With a wingspan of over three metres, the majestic Dalmatian Pelican is one of Europes largest birds, but it is seriously threatened with extinction. Since 1998 the watchword for SWAROVSKI OPTIK and project partner Le Balkan - Bulgaria has been to support one of the species last breeding colonies beside Lake Srebarna in Bulgaria, and specifically by creating new breeding platforms, we can prevent nesting birds from drowning when the Danube is in flood and also protect the young from predators. The 2010 breeding season with 120 pairs and 115 fledged chicks was again very satisfactory. After this magnificent success, Mr. Johannes Davoras, Member of the Executive Board made a promise: "This project is not some nine-day wonder. We will continue to develop it and follow it up in the long term."
