The famous tree-breeding White Stork colony is to be found in the southern part of the March-Auen nature reserve. As a result of a general deterioration in their habitat, caused in part by a changing climate, bird experts fear difficult times for the white stork population over the medium term. Under the stork protection program, SWAROVSKI OPTIK financially supported the WWF in the creation of artificial nests in 2004 so that the White Storks could remain inside the colony. The nests gave young birds active protection against prey and poisoning for several years.
