The Fascination of Birdwatching
There are birds on every continent in the world. They represent nature in all its glory. They are numerous, varied, intelligent, garrulous and beautiful. Their ability to fly communicates a sense of freedom and independence and will always impress us. Those who are involved with birds learn a great deal about nature and appreciate their valuable place in nature.
It is possible to enjoy birdwatching in a variety of ways. Starting with simply gazing at birds in the garden, identifying different species and listing sightings varied locations, or even a sporting rivalry in sightings of rare bird species, to the scientific study of birds and their habitats within the context of global nature conservation. Or it may simply offer us the opportunity to spend relaxing time in harmony with nature.

Birds can be watched anywhere - be it in the city, the country, on the coast, at sea, in the deepest jungle, on the coldest polar ice or the hot savannah. There really are no limits for a birdwatcher. Whether alone, with friends, family or like-minded people on a trip - birdwatching is an activity which ranges from quiet contemplation to a social event and can be practised by both children and adults well into old age.
There are approximately 10,000 different bird species in the world which are as varied as birdwatching itself. They differ in size, colours, song, movement and behaviour. It is invariably only minute details that make it possible to differentiate between them.
It is the possibility of identifying these differences that has spurred Swarovski Optik into developing and producing high-precision optical instruments to the highest possible quality standards. The variety of ways which birdwatching can be enjoyed is as varied as the product range. We see it as our duty to provide the birdwatcher with a suitable binocular and telescope as reliable and long-term companions for all eventualities. The better the optic, the more detail the observer gains from nature. This leads to better birdwatching and in the end is also of great importance to science.

At Swarovski Optik we place a high value on dealing respectfully with nature and its fauna, and its conservation. Environmentally compatible production on one hand and active nature conservation and species protection on the other are deeply embedded in our corporate philosophy. We make a considerable contribution towards the preservation of habitats and the protection of endangered bird species by means of selected projects and partnerships with appropriate organisations. Moreover, it is one of Swarovski Optik’s concerns to enthuse as many people as possible to take up nature observation and birdwatching in order to encourage broader interest, understanding and support for environmental and animal protection.
